Don't believe it? Check out Chevy's latest attack on Ford—the Camaro ZL1, a direct assault on Ford's most powerful Mustang, the 550-horsepower Shelby GT500.

Looking at the two adversaries' histories, it's amazing just how much the Mustang and Camaro have in common. Like the Shelby moniker Ford uses on its top-of-the-line Mustang, the Camaro ZL1 name dates back to the 1960s. In 1969, Chevy gave an exclusive group of 69 custom Camaros a very special V-8 dubbed ZL1. Built for racing, the original ZL1 engine was an all-aluminum 427 cubic-inch monster boasting 430 horsepower. To avoid being hassled by insurance companies that were fighting against other high-powered machines, many believe GM underrated that original ZL1 automobile news by about 100 horses.

Today, both the Shelby and the ZL1 boast supercharged V-8 engines under their hoods. The ZL1 is powered by a 6.2-liter V-8 that originated in the Cadillac CTS Coupe. In the Cadillac, the engine tops out at 556 horsepower. In the ZL1, Chevy is promising at least 550 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque. (Since the Shelby GT500 has almost exactly the same stats, it's not hard to imagine Chevy striving to harness all the power it can get under the hood in order to one-up Ford.)

To distinguish the ZL1 from lesser Camaros, the company has given the ZL1 an aluminum hood with vents to help release the copious amount of heat created by the hyped-up engine. The car also gets a new front bumper with a larger mouth, plus vents to help cool the ZL1's massive front brakes. Lightweight 20-inch forged wheels are wrapped in the widest tires of any Camaro. Inside, the interior is as classic as ever. There's a new steering wheel and a boost gauge to monitor the supercharger. Hyundai's two new cars and its luxury-car strategy offer proof that GM, Ford and Toyota ought to worry more about the South Korean Automaker than one another. By Doran Levin

Two main themes of 2011′s post-recession competition in the U.S. car market so far are:  1) the rebound of Detroit and 2) the stumbles of Toyota.

A third and equally significant development has drawn less attention, namely the surging fortunes of South Korean Automaker Hyundai.  This summer, Hyundai begins selling its Accent small car in the U.S., which is likely to contend strongly against Ford's Fiesta, Honda's Fit and Chevrolet's soon-to-be built Sonic.

Hyundai is also captializing on a strategy to grab sales, mainly from Lexus and Infiniti, by pursuing a luxury-car strategy that is innovative and less costly than setting up a seperate brand and dealer network.  Two years after introducing its Genesis sedan and Coupe, the automaker is bringing out a face-lifted version with styling nips and tucks, as well as a more powerful engine and new eight-speed automatic transmission.

On the small-car front, Accent's bona fides are impressive.  Available in 2011 Chrysler 200 Convertible four-door and in a five-door hatchback versions, Accent comes on the heels of Hyundai's Sonata game-changing midsize sedan ind its compact Elantra, both of which are highly acclaimed by reviewers and are selling well.  the 40 mpg highway rating will undoubtedly catch the attention of budget-conscious consumers.

In the first five months of the year, Hyundai and its affiliate Kia together added 1.4 points of U.S. market share, compared with a collective gain of 0.9 points for General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler.  On the basis of retail sales in May, not including sales to rental fleets, Sonata led all midsize family sedans, outselling the Chevrolety Cruze, Honda Accord and Nissan Altima.

What's all the more remarkable is that Hyundai's share gain through May comes off a much smaller base.  Detroit-based automakers account for 46.2% of the market, compared with Hyundai and Kia's 8.8%.  b raising chickens< mustang car /a> ut no one is taking Hyundai lightly anymore, expecially those who recall how Toyota, Honda, and Nissan were underestimated.

With job loss now less of a worry, Assurance has been rebooted as a gurantee that when Hyundai owners deciede to trade in their vehicles they will receive a minimum resale value.  the buyer of a new Hyundai Elantra, for example, knows month-by-month what the resale value of the car will be for four years from the day it's bought.  That amount can be applied toward the purchase of a new Hyundai.  At the other end of their vehicle lineup, Hyundai executives are "thrilled" with the sales performance of the Equus Luxury Sedan, says Mike O'Brien, vice president of product planning.  The sedan has filched sales mainly from Lexus's LS460 sedan as well as Cadillac and Infiniti.

Law enforcement across the country are cracking down in an effort to reduce drunk driving causalities and related accidents. Programs like C.A.R.E, Combined Accident Reduction Effort, active in all 50 states, will increase the number of law enforcement officers on the roadways, increase the number of speed traps, drunk driving checkpoints and patrol highly trafficked areas.

With a higher volume of law enforcement out, the chances of being involved an accident or receiving a ticket such as a D.U.I, Driving Under the Influence, increases. It also increases your insurance premiums if you are involved in any of those situations. 1.   Do not drink and drive. Law enforcement will be out in full swing this weekend, the odds of you being stopped increase 30% over the Fourth of July weekend. 2.   Plan your 2011 Chrysler 200 Convertible driving ahead giving yourself plenty of time to travel to your destination, as traffic will be increased across the country. Avoid highly congested areas by traveling at night or a day ahead of schedule. 3.   Wear your seat belt. With checkpoints and roadblocks in nearly every state over the weekend, law enforcement officers are sure to write you up if you are driving without a seat belt, if the law applies within the state. 4.   Do not text and drive. Over 1/3 of the states have a law against using a cell phone while driving. As these driving restrictions are new to many states, state officials will use this busy weekend to spotlight dangerous increase in cellphone use while driving. 5.   Pack a safety kit. The high temperatures across the country will increase the likelihood of dehydration. If you are driving in a vehicle for a long period of time, you will want to ensure you will have plenty of fluids to drink.
